Staff provided an amendment proposed by Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing on page 8 to update the commission duties, on page 9. The commission shall be positioned within DCF with a direct line to the deputy secretary or secretary and the executive director shall receive a comparable salary to other directors, on page 10 the commission shall have oversight over the supervision evaluation of the executive director.
An amendment to the balloon on page 9 was made to read “the Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing shall report directly to the Deputy Secretary or Secretary”. Senator Rucker moved the amendment to the balloon. Senator Braun seconded. The motion carried. (Attachment 13)
An amendment to the balloon on page 10 was made to read “the commission shall supervise and evaluate the executive director”. Senator Rucker moved the amendment to the balloon. Senator Braun seconded. The motion carried.
Senator Pyle moved the balloons be divided by page. Senator Alley seconded. The balloon on page 8 passed with a dissenting vote. The dissenting vote declined to be recorded. The balloon on page 9 passed. The balloon on page 10 passed.
Staff provided an amendment removing an exemption of interpreting during a religious event. Senator Bollier moved the amendment. Senator Taylor seconded. Division was in order. The amendment fails. (Attachment 14)
Staff provided an amendment updating the vernacular from speech impaired to speech and language impairments. Senator Baumgardner moved the amendment. Senator Braun seconded. The motion passed. (Attachment 15)
Senator Givens moved that the technical amendment previously provided be accepted and pass SB230 as amended. Senator Braun seconded. The motion carried. (Attachment 16)
