Minutes for SB315 - Committee on Transportation
Short Title
Providing for the love, Chloe foundation license plate.
Minutes Content for Wed, Feb 12, 2020
The Chair opened the hearing on SB315. Staff Adam Siebers explained the bill would create the love, Chloe distinctive license plate with issuance date after January 1, 2021. He noted the Love, Chloe foundation would be authorized to allow the logo to be affixed to license plates upon royalty payment of $25, but no more than $100, for each license plate. Annual royalty payments would be remitted to the State Treasurer and credited to the Love, Chloe Foundation Royalty Fund.
On a point of personal privilege, Senator Hardy introduced Niquaers Nazo, a high school student from Abilene, Kansas, who is following the Senator for the day to experience the legislative process in Kansas.
The Chair introduced Heidi Feyerherm-Smith, Chloe's mother and Founder of Love, Chloe Foundation based in Salina, Kansas. She instituted the foundation following the death of Chloe for the purpose of helping make a difference in the lives of other families experiencing the challenges of support in the care of children with cancer. Ms. Feyerherm-Smith indicated there are forty different types of childhood cancers and government funding covers a mere 4 percent in finances and services to families. Her request for funding of SB315 to create this license plate will allow the accumulation of funds for the Fueling the Fight initiative, which provides financial assistance to families who have a child dealing with cancer (Attachment 1).
The hearing on SB315 was closed.
