Staff explained the bill and answered questions. Staff passed out an amendment proposed by the Kansas Department of Transportation amending the bill to require a military surplus vehicle meet size and weight limits and to specify a military surplus vehicle may not transport passengers for hire.
Representative Sutton moved to adopt the amendment. (Attachment 3 ) Representative Helgerson seconded the motion. Motion carried. Back on the bill. Discussion followed. Representative Pittman moved to amend HB2420, as amended, to include the wording, "...except that special interest vehicles including street rod vehicles "and military surplus vehicles" may not transport passengers for hire, nor haul material weighing more than 500 pounds." Representative Sutton seconded the motion. Motion carried. Back on the bill as further amended. Representative Awerkamp moved to pass HB2420, as amended, seconded by Representative Ohaebosim. Motion carried.
The Chairman called for approval of the Committee Minutes for the meetings held on January 15, 16, 22, 23 and 28th. Representative Helgerson moved adoption of the Minutes, seconded by Representative Seiwert. Motion carried.
Announcements
Chairman Proehl announced that the next meeting will be February 13 and the Members will take Final Action on HB2528 - Providing for all vehicles more than 35 years old to qualify as an antique vehicle.
