Chair opened meeting up. Called Jason Long to provide an in-depth overview of HB 2552.
Jason stood for questions.
Rep. Winn asked for clarification of evidence based services.
Rep. Hoffman posed a question as to what would happen to happen to the unused funds.

Renee Erickson, Kansas House of Representatives gave oral testimony in support of HB 2552. Renee provided statistical information on students scoring in the grade one reading level in the 3rd grade, the effects of long term success rates in school, and drop out rates.(Attachment 1)
Chair called Jeanie Phillips, Fundamental learning center to testify
Jeanie Phillips, Fundamental learning center provided oral testimony in support of HB 2552. Jeanie provided a background on the nonprofit organization og the Fundamental Learning Center. Jeanie closed by urging them to pass HB 2552. (Attachment 2)

Ann Welborn gave oral testimony in support of HB 2552. Anne stressed the benefits of what this bill would do for youth in Kansas.(Attachment 3)
Chair called Tammi Hope, Fundamental Learning Center to testify
Tammi Hope, provided her oral testimony in support of HB 2552. Tammi shared a personal story over her son's journey to overcome reading challenges and his IEP. Tammi stated how this bill would have greatly benefited her child on numerous faucets.(Attachment 4)
Kristin Rowley, Fundamental Learning Center provided oral testimony in substitution of Sarah Collins who was sick. Kristen shared a personal story on her own children's struggles with reading and how the Fundamental Learning Center has helped them. (Attachment 5)

Chair called Leah Fliter, Kansas Association of Schools Boards to testify.
Leah Fliter provided oral testimony in opposition of HB 2552. Leah provided several reasons as to why Kansas School Boards and other organizations are opposed.(Attachment 6)
Chair called Erin Gould, Game on for Kansas Schools to testify.
Erin Gould provided her oral testimony in opposition of HB 2552. Erin is opposed as money would be taken from public schools and given to private schools. False narrative that private schools provide automatic success. Concerned at the oversight of HB 2552. Posed many issues with rating students by a test score and how they can give false results. (Attachment 7)
Chair called Mary Sinclair, Kansas PTA to testify
Mary Sinclair provided oral testimony in opposition to HB 2552. Allocating taking funding away from public schools and giving them to private schools. Mary does not believe that is the solution to the problem. Urges to find other solutions. (Attachment 8)
Chair called Lisa Huesers to provide oral testimony in opposition of HB 2552
Lisa provided oral testimony in opposition of HB 2552. Education is snot about scores, data mining, but its about education them on a pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is a bill that is school choice. Public dollars given to private educators. Taxation without representation. Urges committee to look into Florida cases.(Attachment 9)
