Minutes for HB2480 - Committee on Insurance
Short Title
Updating the definition of long-term care insurance contained in the long-term care insurance act.
Minutes Content for Mon, Feb 3, 2020
The chairperson opened the hearing on HB 2478. Eileen Ma, Assistant Revisor of Statutes, provided an overview of the bill (Attachment 1).
Lee Modesitt testified in support of the bill. He said the bill changed the definition of long-term care by striking the 12-month coverage requirement and would allow persons to offer long-term care insurance for less than 12 months (Attachment 2)
Questions were asked and answered concerning: the situations where a person might require long-term insurance for less than 12 months, whether the insurance department regulated such policies, if such a policy filled in a gap between admission to a long-term care facility and receipt of funds from another policy, and the reasoning behind the prior 12-month period coverage requirement.
There being no other conferees or questions, the chairperson closed the hearing on HB 2480.
Chairperson Vickrey asked if there were any changes to the January 22 and 29, 2020, minutes. There were none. Representative Frownfelter moved, Representative Neighbor seconded and the motion carried to approve the minutes.
Chairperson Vickrey adjourned the meeting at 3:50 pm.
