Kyle Hamilton gave an overview of SB162.(Attachment 1)
Sen. Molly Baumgardner spoke in support of the bill explaining the need for the bill, stressing that legislators cannot fix the foster care problem when they are not aware of what is happening. (Attachment 2)
Christie Appelhanz gave written testimony in opposition stating that it is not enough to find runaway youth, we need to ask why they ran and what can be done to correct that problem. She also stressed that the Child Welfare System Task Force has addressed these questions more fully and it would be better to act on their recommendations than to create a new system of information gathering. (Attachment 3).
Rebekah Gaston gave neutral testimony about the bill explaining how DCF currently handles missing children and made requests that would make implementation of SB162 run more smoothly. (Attachment 4)
Chairperson Concannon requested an amended fiscal note from the Office of the Budget.(Attachment 5)
