Minutes for HB2185 - Committee on Public Health and Welfare
Short Title
Clarifying the naturopathic medicine scope of practice to include diagnostic imaging.
Minutes Content for Thu, Mar 14, 2019
Chairman Suellentrop opened the hearing on HB2185.
Dr. Alicia Johnson submitted testimony in support of HB2185 stating that it's passage is a clarification of current practice in Kansas. In 2017 it was discovered that statute language allowing Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) to order imaging was absent from legislation. This was an oversight as it is common practice to order imaging. (Attachment 1)
Kevin Barone presented proponent testimony in support of HB2185 stating that this bill is a technical bill concerning digital imaging that is supported by all the parties involved. By including the technical language, not only will the NDs scope say they can now write up digital imaging, but the amendment ensures that the Radiology Technicians can accept the instructions from the NDs.
