Minutes Content for Wed, Feb 20, 2019
Jeanne Gawdun presented supportive testimony for HB2274. A description of the 2 step process required for a "medication" abortion was provided with the first set given in the presence of a physician and the second set is taken at home. Increasingly, the number of women who chose not to take the second set has increased. An Abortion reversal pill is available. The bill would require posting of information regarding the availability of the reversal medication in all clinics and community health centers She noted the story from the client of Embrace Wichita who provided written testimony (Attachment 3).
Ms. Gawdun fielded questions from the committee.
Brittany Jones as Director of Advocacy for Family Policy Alliance of Kansas stands in support of the bill because it gives full information on a patient's options. Five states have passed similar legislation. 5 additional states are considering this legislation (Attachment 4).
Barbara Saldivar provided testimony in support of the bill as the State Director for Concerned Women of America. She noted that timely notice for the option to reverse an abortion is important. A woman deserves the right to have available to her all the information to reverse the abortion if she chooses (Attachment 5).
