The Chairperson opened the hearing on SB 138. Mr. Siebers explained the bill would designate a portion of US Highway 77 as the Captain Donald Root Strother Memorial Highway. He noted that the Department of Transportation would be required to place signs indicating the designation.
Senator Alley requested consideration of SB 138 to honor Captain Donald Root Strother by designating a short section of US Highway 77 on the East side of Strother Field as a memorial for his service during World War II. He noted that Captain Strother of Winfield, Kansas was the first Cowley County Army Air Corps pilot to lose his life in action (Attachment 4).
Chairperson Petersen thanked the family for being in attendance.
The hearing on SB 138 was closed.
