Short Title
Allowing cities to authorize the use of transportation network company signs in vehicles.
Minutes Content for Wed, Feb 13, 2019
Senator Goddard, Vice-Chairperson, opened the hearing on SB 63. Mr. Siebers briefed members on the bill saying SB 63 would allow any city to adopt an ordinance allowing drivers of transportation network companies to display lights from directly in front of the center of the vehicle and use any color but red for those lights.
Senator Goddard recognized Senator Mike Petersen, who spoke as a proponent of SB 63 (Attachment 1). Senator Petersen said the bill will allow cities to address the issue of what type of lights transportation network drivers can have on their vehicles while logged onto the company's digital network. He commended transportation networks for their involvement in seeking to provide safe transportation for impaired customers who are not able to safely drive themselves. Senator Petersen referenced an attachment secured from KWCH, Wichita (Attachment 2). He requested the committee give favorable consideration to SB 63.
Written testimony was provided by Johnathan Buckner, Public Policy Manager for Lyft (Attachment 3).
The hearing on SB 63 was closed.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for February 14, 2019.
