Chairperson Bowers opened the hearing on SB105. Mike Heim, staff revisor, presented a briefing on the bill.
Senator Pettey testified in support of SB105. Senator Pettey explained this bill addresses a lame duck period for local government officials. Senator Pettey indicated SB105 provides a window of time to establish a resolution for start of new terms, or it can remain the second Monday in January. (Attachment 1)
Amanda Stanley testified in support of SB105. Ms. Stanley explained this bill addresses concerns with the swearing-in of new officials. Ms. Stanley indicated this bill allows cities to choose a date for swearing in of elected officials between the canvass and the first of December and the second Monday in January. So rather than have a special meeting, the swearing-in can happen at a regularly scheduled meeting. (Attachment 2)
