Revisor Jason Long gave a brief overview of the bill (Attachment 1) He explained that the bill would authorize the board of county commissioners of any county that is not the most populous county in a multiple-county judicial district to appoint a coroner to serve as the district coroner for the county at the expense of the county.

David Groves, Kansas Sheriffs Association, testified as a proponent for the bill (Attachment 2). He explained that the bill would allow less populated counties who wish to select and benefit from the services of their own coroner, the ability to do so at their cost.

Chairman Bergquist closed the hearing on SB381.

Representative Blex moved, seconded by Representative Featherston that the rule be suspended and SB381 be worked and have final action. Motion carried.

Representative Blex moved, seconded by Representative Representative Underhill, to pass favorable SB381. Motion carried.

Representative Amyx moved, seconded by Representative Collins to approve the minutes dated 3/6/2024, 3/11/2024, and 3/13/2024. Motion carried.
