Requiring the secretary for health and environment to provide a death certificate of a child to the state child death review board, increasing the number of board members, allowing for compensation and providing for the disclosure of certain records to certain persons for securing grants.

Chairperson Gossage opened the hearing on HB2629.

Eileen Ma, Staff Revisor gave an overview of the bill. (Attachment 1) There were no questions.

Sarah Hortenstine testified as a proponent of the HB2629. on behalf of the State Child Death Review Board and the Office of the Attorney General. (Attachment 2)

She took numerous questions from committee members.

Written only, neutral testimony was submitted by Kay Haug, Kansas Department of Health & Environment. (Attachment 3)

Chairperson Gossage closed the hearing on HB2629.

Chairperson Gossage asked for a motion to approve the committee minutes for January 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and February 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 2024. Senator Thompson moved to approve the minutes, with a second from Senator Holscher. On a voice vote of aye, the minutes were approved.

Chairperson Gossage adjourned the meeting at 9:05 a.m. The next scheduled meeting is March 12, 2024 at 8:30 a.m.
