Chairwoman Warren opened hearing on HB2522.
Jason Thompson provided an overview of the bill and stood for questions. (Attachment 10)
Dr Cris Fanning Exec Director, Programs and Risk Reduction, Kansas Department of Corrections, provided testimony in support of release planning. She stated the risk reduction, re-entry services, and release planning are provided to all residents consistent with their custody level and areas of risk and need, beginning at 16 months pre-release. (Attachment 11)
Dr Fanning stood for questions. A question from the committee is how does a person get a Social Security number? Who determines eligibility? Dr Fanning will find out and reply. Response was made on March 11, 2024 by Secretary Jeff Zmuda. (Attachment 12)
There being no further conferees, Chairwoman Warren closed the hearing on HB2522.
Meeting minutes for February 12, 13, 14, 15, 19 and 20, 2024 were submitted for review. The Chairwoman asked if there was a motion. Vice-Chair Wilborn moved and Senator Gossage seconded to approve the minutes. The motion carried.
