Chris Waggoner, Assistant Revisor of Office of Statutes, provided the committee with a briefing on the bill. (Attachment 1)
Representative Waymaster, gave written only testimony as a proponent of HB2799 recognizing with gratitude that this would be a way of honoring our veterans and first responders and their service to the city of Russell Kansas. (Attachment 2)
Senator Bowers gave written only testimony in favor of HB2799 to support recognition and acknowledgement of first responders in their sacrifice and heroism. (Attachment 3)
Mayor Jim Cross provided written only testimony to the bill to specifically honor EMT's, firefighters and first responders of Russell, Kansas, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in service to their community. (Attachment 4)
Jim Quinday, city manager of Russell, Kansas, also provided written minutes of a February 6th, 2024, Russell City Council meeting in which a dedication sign to memorialize U.S. Highway 281 as the "first Responders Memorial HIghway" was presented and approved by the city council. (Attachment 5)
There were no opponents and no neutral testimonies.
The chair closed the hearing on the bill.
Representative Goddard made a motion, seconded by by Representative Hoheisel, to suspend the house committee rules so that the committee could work the bill and complete final action on it. Without objection, the motion carried.
Discussion followed.
Representative Goddard moved, seconded by Representative Hoheisel, for favorable passage of the bill. The motion carried.
The committee adjourned at 2:45 PM.
