Opponents:
Angie Stallbaumer stated that local public schools have developed relationships with students and parents. The legislature is not the best organization to put the curriculum in place. Parents can keep students away from materials they find objectionable. (Attachment 8)
Ann Mah stated that Library standards were updated last fall and it is not Kansas State Department of Education's job to tell people what they think. It would be a gross violation of local control. (Attachment9)
Timothy Graham stated that the task force would be political in nature. There are processes in place and have been established with a great deal of professional guidance and should be the outlet for these concerns.(Attachment10)
Mary Sinclair stated that school librarians and media specialists who hold certifications and master degrees in education school library collections are best able to align with the district and state education standards with grade level learning goals and to supplement key content across curricula. The is already a process in place. (Attachment11)
