Minutes for HB2746 - Committee on Health and Human Services
Short Title
Updating requirements for receiving and renewing a license under the dietitians licensing act.
Minutes Content for Tue, Feb 13, 2024
Carly Hume, Revisor of Statutes, provided an overview of HB2746.
Lacey Hunter, Commissioner, Survey Certification & Credentialing, Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, provided testimony in support of HB2746 (Attachment 1). The bill updates educational requirements to the dieticians licensing act. Ms. Hunter reviewed the steps an applicant must take to receive a dietician license. Beginning January 1, 2024, educational requirements for dieticians will be changed from a bachelor's degree to a graduate level degree per the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The education change also affects eligibility to take the registration exam. The new standard also increases the number of supervised practice from 900 hours to 1,000 hours. K.S.A. 65-5906 needs to be updated to reflect the changes by the national credentialing body. The bill also contains clean-up items such as removing references to mailing applications as they are now emailed. It would also change reference from "License Dietician" to also include allowable title "License Dietician Nutrition" which again falls in line with national standards.
Ms. Hunter responded to questions from the committee.
The following provided written only testimony in support of HB2746:
Jordan Chen, Public Policy Coordinator, Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Attachment 2)
