The Chairman called for discussion and action on SB322.
Whitney Damron, on behalf of Kansas Entertainment, LLC, an initial opponent of the bill, and Brad Smoot, representing Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, a proponent, briefly spoke about negotiations which took place to arrive at common ground on the bill. They stated it was determined the bill, as originally written, satisfied both parties, and both stood for questions.
Will Lawrence, Chief of Staff, Kansas Governor Kelly, also spoke briefly and stood for questions.
Senator Longbine moved the bill be recommended favorably for passage. Senator Blasi made a substitute motion that the bill be amended.
The amendment would add the language of SB293, regarding the crediting of tax revenue from parimutuel wagering, to SB322 (Attachment 1) Discussion ensued. Senator Petersen seconded the substitute motion. Motion carries.
Senator Blasi moved, seconded by Senator Longbine, to remove the contents of HB2058, and insert the contents of SB322, as amended, into HB2058, and that S Sub for HB2058 be recommended favorably for passage. Motion carries.
The Chairman adjourned the meeting at 4:17 pm.
