Chair Erickson opened the hearing on HB 2234.
Staff provided an overview of the bill.
Proponents:
Chad Bristow, Director of Facilities, Kansas Board of Regents, appeared in favor of the bill. (Attachment 2) This amendment would reduce the time expended for advertising, reviewing qualifications, short-listing, interviewing, and selecting design professionals. It would also reduce the time and money spent by architectural and engineering firms generating material, traveling, and preparing for interviews.
Greg Schieber, Deputy Secretary for the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) spoke in favor of the bill. (Attachment 3) KDOT supports the bill due to the added flexibility and time saving measure it provides for their building projects.
