Chairperson McGinn opened the hearing on SB 150.
Staff Revisor Jason Long gave a bill brief and responded to questions from the committee.
Samir Arif, Director of Public Affairs for the Department of Administration spoke in support of the bill on behalf of Adam Proffitt, Acting Secretary. Mr. Arif explained that because of Covid the last few years, some cities and counties had experienced difficulty in fulfilling printing needs with private printing businesses and had reached out to the State. As a result of recent upgrades and investment in new printing equipment, the State has greater capacity to expand its printing operations for the benefit of cities and counties. The intent is not to compete with private business but to be a resource when private alternatives are not available. (Attachment 1)
Mr. Arif received questions from the committee. Discussion ensued.
