Nick Myers, Kansas Office of Revisor of Statutes, informed the committee that K.S.A. 72-1137 prohibits school districts from providing any compensation to a Board of Education member. Mr. Myers explained that HB 2261 - Authorizing boards of education of school districts to compensate board members for the duties and obligations of board members would strike the provision and allow school districts to compensate board members (Attachment 1).
Mr. Myers stood for questions.

Jim Karleskint, United School Administrators of Kansas, offered neutral testimony that highlighted possible concerns that could arise from paying board members based on a district-to-district basis (Attachment 2).
