Chairwoman Warren opened the hearing on SB72,. Jason Thompson, Revisors Office, provided an overview of the bill and stood for questions. (Attachment 1)
Mark Dupree gave testimony in support of SB72. He stated many times non native English speaking victims and witnesses forget some of the details they tell officers. An interpreter would then be brought to court to verify the veracity of the statement. He states that SB72 helps provide judicial economy in the handling of a variety of cases. (Attachment 2)
Jessica Glendening gave testimony in opposition to SB72. She states that SB72 would create a new exception to the rule against hearsay evidence without safeguarding the reliability of the proposed evidence. (Attachment 3)
