Brief (1)
HB 2174 changes the method of appointing district court chief clerks. Under current law, the chief judge of each district court selects the chief clerk with the approval of a majority of "other" judges in the district. The bill removes the word "other" so that in a three-judge district, for example, approval of a majority of judges, when there is a split between the other two judges, can include the chief judge.
Background
An official with the Office of Judicial Administration, as well as the Chief Judge from the 18th Judicial District, appeared in support of the bill.
