Brief (1)
SB 125 is a technical cleanup bill of the state election laws.
The bill updates provisions that allow for petition requirements and filing deadlines to conform to redistricting plans and deadlines.
The bill deletes references to the county surveyor from nomination petitions and the primary and general ballots.
The bill changes the ballot format to require "For Presidential Electors for President and Vice President" and "Vote for One Set of Electors" be printed only once on the ballot.
Amendments to the bill were technical in nature.
Background
SB 125 was requested by the Secretary of State's Office (SOS). A representative from SOS testified that there are no elected surveyors in Kansas anymore. Also, he testified that the bill updates the language dealing with replacement of county commissioners to reflect counties that have five county commissioners instead of three.
The House Committee made a technical amendment to the ballot format and made another technical amendment.
