The bill amends KSA 75-5205 by adding two positions to the list of unclassified positions for the Department of Corrections. The bill adds director of information technology or director of capital improvements to the unclassified positions; currently only an unclassified attorney is listed in statute.

Background

The agency currently employs individuals as director of information technology and director of capital improvements as unclassified temporary special project employees. The agency requests the change to recruit and retain qualified personnel for these currently filled positions.

Representatives of the Department of the Corrections and the Department of Administration testified in support of the bill.

The bill has no fiscal impact.
