SB 18 would require the Juvenile Justice Authority to award grants for community juvenile justice programs on a two-year funding cycle beginning with FY 2003. The agency currently awards those grants on an annual basis.
Background
The bill was introduced by the Joint Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice Oversight. Senator Lana Oleen, speaking on behalf of herself and Representative Shari Weber, spoke in favor of the bill. There were no opponents to the bill presenting testimony before the Committee.
The Senate Committee's amendment added the provision that the grant funding would be subject to appropriations made to the agency.
The House Committee amended the bill to change the start date of the two-year funding cycle from FY 2003 to FY 2002.
The Conference Committee recommended the Senate version of the bill.
