Background
The bill was introduced by the Joint Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice Oversight based on hearings and tours related to local jails. The Department of Corrections currently requires local jails to meet safety, health, and security requirements according to agency policy and terms of the contracts with local jails.
The Secretary of Corrections and Representative Weber testified in favor of the bill.
