SESSION OF 2000

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON HOUSE BILL NO. 2643

As Recommended by House Committee on

Transportation

Brief (1)

HB 2643 relates to vehicle load widths. The bill is in response to an oversight in 1998 HB 2782 which was intended to allow farm trucks loaded with bales of hay to travel on the Interstate highways by obtaining a special trip permit. The applicable provision, KSA 1999 Supp. 8-1902(2), does not contain the necessary language.

Background

The Assistant Bureau Chief of Traffic Engineering, Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), appeared in support of the bill. The Bureau Chief of KDOT testified that the bill corrects the oversight in the 1998 amendment to KSA 8-1902(2). The Kansas Livestock Association furnished written testimony which indicated that the bill fulfills the agreement reached by the House/Senate Transportation Conference Committee on this matter. The Kansas Farm Bureau also provided written testimony supporting the bill.

HB 2643 would have no fiscal effect.
