Brief (1)
Sub. for HB 2642 provides that no motor vehicle, including the load thereon, shall exceed a length of 45 feet extreme overall dimension, excluding the front and rear bumpers. This requirement does not apply to a truck tractor.
Background
HB 2642, as introduced, would have created a penalty for providing false information to the Medical Advisory Board of the Division of Vehicles. Any person intentionally providing false information about a driver's license applicant could have been convicted of a Class B misdemeanor.
The House Transportation Committee bill, Sub. for HB 2642, was requested by the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association. John Federico, of Federico Consulting, testified that current law restricts the length of single unit vehicles to 42 feet, 6 inches. He provided information which indicated that 23 states permit single unit motor home lengths of 45 feet or longer. He also stated that the purpose of the substitute bill is to make Kansas conform with other states' length laws and provide for a measure of uniformity.
The House Committee of the Whole amendment excludes the front and rear bumpers of a motor vehicle from the overall extreme length dimension, as noted in the brief.
