HB 2600 amends the law regarding exemptions from jury service to provide that a person who has served as a juror in the county during the past year would be automatically excused from jury service for one year. Under current law, a person under this excuse would be subject to the discretion of the presiding judge.
Background
The bill was introduced as the result of the 1999 Interim Special Committee on Judiciary.
A conferee representing the Office of Judicial Administration indicated there are only two judicial districts in the state where the policy on exemptions as indicated in the bill are not followed.
The fiscal note indicates no fiscal impact.
