Brief (1)
HB 2592 would amend current law regarding the terms of Kansas Arts Commission Board members. HB 2592 would change commissioner terms from various lengths to a standard three-year term. The bill would also limit members to two terms, instead of four terms as in current law. Also, the titles of the President and Vice President of the Kansas Arts Commission would become Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.
Background
The proponent of the bill was the Executive Director of the Kansas Arts Commission. The Arts Commission Executive Director testified that the changes in terms would allow Board members to become more familiar with the arts community and processes and therefore more effective on the Board. The Executive Director testified that the title change would bring the Kansas Arts Commission's nomenclature in line with other state and federal arts agencies. There was no opposition to the bill.
The fiscal note indicates that there would be no fiscal impact to these changes.
