Brief (1)
HB 2241 requires candidates for the offices of county clerk, treasurer, sheriff, and register of deeds to be and to remain a qualified elector who resides in the county during the period of time that they are a candidate for nomination or election to these offices and during their term of office if elected.
Background
The sponsor said the current law contains an anomaly. The law requires a person who is appointed to fill a vacancy in the office of county clerk, treasurer, sheriff, or register of deeds to be a resident, but does not require residency for candidates for these offices or for persons elected to these offices.
