SCR 1630 would urge the Kansas Water Office to pursue the purchase and acquisition of water supply storage capacity in Kanopolis Reservoir. The resolution requests that the United States Army Corps of Engineers be requested to cooperate with the Kansas Water Office in negotiating the sale of water supply storage capacity in Kanopolis Reservoir in a timely manner and under reasonable terms.
Background
This resolution was introduced by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources after the Interim Special Committee on Environment requested the Kansas Water Office to provide a resolution to the 2000 Legislature. Testimony was received from the Director of the Kansas Water Office. The Director indicated that his office believes that the cost of the water storage capacity in Kanopolis will be in the $6 million range.
