Brief (1)
SB 620 amends the Juvenile Offender Code to permit relevant written statements made under oath into evidence in a hearing regarding violations by a juvenile of conditional release from a juvenile correctional facility.
Background
The bill was supported by the Kansas County and District Attorneys Association and the Geary County Attorney. The change is intended to parallel current law regarding adult hearings for violations of conditional release from prison. The bill, for example, would preclude the necessity of having a lab professional who performs toxicology screens on blood or urine samples from attending these hearings in person.
The bill was opposed by a Lawrence attorney who is a member of the Board of Governors of the Kansas Bar Association.
The bill has no fiscal impact on the state. *Supplemental notes are prepared by the Legislative Research Department and do not express legislative intent. The supplemental note and fiscal note for this bill may be accessed on the Internet at http://www.ink.org/public/legislative/bill_search.html
