Brief (1)
SB 613 would place a new individual income tax check-off on tax returns to provide funding on behalf of Kansas for the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. The check-off would be included on returns for only two years--tax years 2000 and 2001.
All amounts designated for contribution would be deposited in the Kansas World War II Memorial Fund, which is created by the bill.
Background
Proponents included World War II veterans Don Schnacke and former Senator Jack A. Quinlan.
Kansas currently has a check-off for nongame wildlife improvement (KSA 79-3221d).
Fiscal notes from the Budget Division and the Department of Revenue said that the bill would necessitate an additional $48,487 of expenditures in FY 2001. Of this amount, $22,330 would be one-time programming costs and $26,157 would represent the ongoing costs for a 1.0 FTE Office Assistant III position.
