SESSION OF 2000

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 499

As Recommended by Senate Committee on

Assessment and Taxation

Brief (1)

SB 499 would allow cities to initiate judicial tax foreclosure actions in certain situations. Under current law, the responsibility for selling properties with delinquent taxes lies with the board of county commissioners through its county attorney or county counselor. This bill would allow cities to sell property within the city limits three years after it first becomes eligible for sale if the county has not initiated a foreclosure action.

Background

The Senate Committee held a hearing on this bill at which time the only conferee was the League of Kansas Municipalities, who testified in favor of the bill.
