Brief (1)
SB 460 would permit the State Treasurer to change the designation of any vacant classified position in the Office of the State Treasurer to an unclassified position. The bill would not impact the classification status of any current classified employees of the agency.
Background
The bill was introduced at the request of the State Treasurer. A representative of the State Treasurer's Office testified that the bill would provide the elected official with greater flexibility in directing the workforce needs of the agency. The conferee indicated that the change would also add the ability to compensate high performing employees beyond the step movement reflected in the classified pay matrix.
There were no opponents who testified on the bill.
