SESSION OF 1999

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON HOUSE BILL NO. 2325

As Recommended by House Committee on

Governmental Organization and Elections

Brief(1)

H.B. 2325 would allow the county election officer in any county having a population greater than 250,000 (currently only Johnson and Sedgwick counties) to designate places other than the central county election office as satellite voting sites for purposes of advance voting. The bill would authorize the sites to be used for in-person advance voting.

Background

The Johnson County Election Commissioner and the Chair of the Kansas County Clerks/Election Officials Association Election Committee testified in support of H.B. 2325. The Johnson County Election Commissioner stated that satellite voting sites would make advance voting more convenient and less cumbersome to administer.

No opponents testified on the bill.

The Division of the Budget fiscal note stated that there would be no fiscal impact on state operations; however, there could be a fiscal impact on Johnson and Sedgwick counties if they establish satellite voting sites.
