Mike Hayden Overpass Bridge. H.B. 2141, as amended, would designate Bridge Number 008 on U.S. 83 Highway in Seward County as the Mike Hayden Overpass Bridge. The bill would require the Secretary of Transportation to place signs indicating the designation and would allow the Secretary to accept donations for the signs.

Herman G. Dillon Bridges. H.B. 2141 also would designate Bridge Numbers 072 and 287 on U.S. 169 in Wyandotte County as the Herman G. Dillon bridges. The bill would require the Secretary of Transportation to place signs indicating the designation and would allow the Secretary to accept donations for the signs.

Background

With regard to the Mike Hayden Overpass Bridge, Representative Holmes, a former Seward County Commissioner, and a representative of the Liberal Chamber of Commerce, testified in support of the bill. Conferees stressed the safety and economic benefits of the bridge.

The cost to put up the Mike Hayden Overpass Bridge signs by the Kansas Department of Transportation is estimated to be $700.

The Committee of the Whole added the amendment pertaining to the Herman G. Dillon Bridges.
