Brief(1)
H.B. 2104 would delete "turkey" from the definition of "game bird" in the section of statutes which require controlled shooting areas to be licensed by the Department of Wildlife and Parks.
Background
At the hearing on the bill, a spokesperson from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks indicated that having "turkey" as a part of the definition of "game bird" in the statutes dealing with controlled shooting areas conflicts with numerous other statutory definitions, where turkeys are classified as big game animals. The spokesperson stated that this bill would reconcile these statutes and prevent confusion. The members of the Committee were told that according to records submitted to the Department by operators of controlled shooting areas, no areas release pen-raised turkeys, and therefore, no current controlled shooting areas would be affected by the change in the bill. There were no opponents to the bill.
The fiscal note indicates no impact.
