Brief(1)
H.B. 2087 amends the Campaign Finance Act by requiring treasurers for candidates for offices in first class cities, the Wichita School Board, and the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities to file a campaign finance report 30 days after the April general election. The report would be for the period beginning 12 days before the general election and ending on the 25th day following such election.
Background
Representative Douglas Johnston requested the introduction of H.B. 2087. A representative of the Secretary of State's Office proposed an amendment that would make the new campaign finance report filing deadline the same as existing law for all other local candidates. He testified that the amendment would help county election officers keep track of candidates' deadlines and avoid confusion among candidates for various local offices. The House Committee amended the bill as suggested by the Secretary of State's Office.
No opponents of the bill presented testimony to the House Committee.
The Division of the Budget's fiscal note indicates that the enactment of H.B. 2087 would have no fiscal impact on state revenues or expenditures.
