The bill would designate the channel catfish the official state fish.





Background



The effort to designate the state fish was initiated by the 7th grade Kansas History class of Olpe U.S.D. 252. The teacher and members of the class presented testimony in support of the bill at the hearing before the House Committee on Federal and State Affairs. Testimony in support of the bill also was presented by Representative O'Brien, the Secretary of Wildlife and Parks, a fisheries biologist, and a representative of the Kansas Commercial Fish Growers Association.



No opponents of the bill presented testimony to the House Committee.



The Division of the Budget's fiscal note on the bill states that the bill would have no impact on state revenues or expenditures.
