Brief(1)
S.B. 207 amends the law regarding background checks on gubernatorial appointees to require a check by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on gubernatorial appointees who are subject to confirmation by the Kansas Senate.
The House Committee deleted the provision that required the Governor to request the background checks. The House Committee also deleted the provision in the bill that required background checks on all judicial appointments.
Background
The bill was supported by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. A proponent said the Federal Bureau of Investigation would only open access to its files for administrative searches when a state law mandated a background check be made.
There is no fiscal impact.
