SESSION OF 1999

SUPPLEMENTAL NOTE ON SENATE BILL NO. 95

As Recommended by Senate Committee on

Judiciary

Brief(1)

S.B. 95 would allow a court services officer to arrest a juvenile without a warrant or to deputize any other officer with power of arrest to arrest a juvenile without a warrant by giving the officer a written statement detailing the violation of the juvenile's release. The bill also authorizes the placement of such juveniles in juvenile detention facilities.

Background

The bill was requested by the Kansas Association of Court Services Officers to give them arrest powers to the same extent they may currently arrest adult offenders on release under K.S.A. 22-3716.
