Brief(1)
H.B. 2813 amends the public works bond statute to raise the amount of expenditure for a project requiring a bond from $10,000 to $40,000. Bonds are required whenever a public official enters into a contract for purposes of making public improvements, or constructing or repairing any public building.
Background
Public works bonds insure that the contractor or subcontractor pay all labor and materials costs on the project. The bill was supported by a representative of Garden City, the League of Kansas Municipalities, and the Director of the State Division of Architectural Services.
The bill has no fiscal impact on the state.
