H.B. 2685, as amended by the Senate Committee, changes a law dealing with notorial acts to add county clerks or deputy county clerks and election commissioners or assistant election commissioners to the list of persons who may perform notorial acts.

Background

The bill as amended was supported by the Kansas County Clerks' Association. A proponent said that county clerks are often assumed to have the power to notarize documents. The bill will save the county a $50 notorial fee and a $10 charge for a bond required to become a notary.

The Senate Committee on Elections and Local Government amended the bill to include election commissioners or assistant election commissioners to the list of persons who may perform notorial acts.
