H.B. 2564 repeals certain statutes dealing with cities of the first class dealing with a change in the form of government, granting of police power to a city over lands owned by it surrounding a lake, and convention centers in certain cities.
The House Committee amended the bill to delete provisions dealing with the regulation of railroads on streets by certain cities.
Background
The bill was recommended by the 1997 Special Committee on Governmental Organization. The Committee studied the issue of the cleanup of local government statutes by repealing obsolete statutes which are no longer needed or made obsolete by the granting of home rule powers to cities and counties.
