S.B. 607 deletes possessing or transporting a molotov cocktail or a pipe bomb from the definition of the crime of a criminal use of weapons, which is a class A nonperson misdemeanor, and adds pipe bomb or molotov cocktail to the crime of criminal use of explosives which is a level 8 person felony under K.S.A. 21-3731.

Background

S.B. 607 was requested by the Kansas Fire Service Council to eliminate an existing conflict between the two criminal statutes noted above.

The bill has no fiscal impact on the state.
