Brief(1)
S.B. 514 amends the salary statute concerning district attorneys to provide that the salary shall be in an amount of not less than the salary of district judges as determined by the board of county commissioners. Current law provides the salary shall be the same as that of a district judge.
Background
The President of the Kansas Senate proposed the bill. The salary of the Johnson County counselor is approximately $20,000 higher than that of the district attorney. The five largest counties (Sedgwick, Johnson, Wyandotte, Shawnee, and Douglas) have district attorneys. A district judge's salary is $83,883.
The bill has no fiscal impact on the state.
