CHAPTER 189
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. 1636
A Concurrent Resolution in support of the
University of Kansas
Alzheimer's disease center's pilot project.
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a
serious disease that affects a sig-
nificant portion of the population age sixty-five and older;
and
WHEREAS, Research indicates that the
number of elderly individuals
affected by Alzheimer's disease will double by the year 2020;
and
WHEREAS, The cost of caring for those
individuals with Alzheimer's
disease is increasing; and
WHEREAS, Research indicates that the
cost of care for an individual
with Alzheimer's disease can be greatly reduced and the quality of
life
improved by early diagnosis and early treatment; and
WHEREAS, The University of Kansas
Alzheimer's disease center has
proposed the Kansas Memory Assessment Program, at a cost of
$21,035,
has as its goals: (1) The support of access to dementia diagnosis
and
treatment services for rural families, and (2) support for the
education of
rural health care providers in the diagnosis and management of
persons
with dementia: Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State
of Kansas, the House of Rep-
resentatives concurring therein: That the Legislature
of the State of
Kansas supports funding of the Kansas Memory Assessment Program
and
encourages continued study and research of issues related to
Alzheimer's
disease.
